Dear Play, Community, Human, and Fun Enthusiasts,

To our new subscribers, welcome to the block party movement! If you are ready to find out more about organizing a block party for your neighbors, will you join me later today at our Zoom Office Hours? I’ll be on from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm ET answering questions, walking through our free toolkit, and helping you get ready for your neighborhood gathering.

You can use the meeting ID: 820 0975 1912 or click here to join me!

If you can’t make it today, my next one will be on Wednesday, August 26th at 12:00-12:30 PM ET. You can sign up for reminders by clicking here. You can also catch up on old newsletters here or grab your free block party toolkit here.

👉 I need YOUR help this time.

I am super excited to announce that my South by Southwest (SXSW) proposal, titled “How a Block Party Can Change Your World,” is up and ready for a community vote! 30% of the selection weight for panels comes from community votes. That’s YOU!

Which means I need your vote to help this idea become a reality on stage!

The process should take you less than two minutes total:

  1. Create a free SXSW ID (if you don’t have one already).

  2. Vote for my proposal by clicking here and clicking the heart next to my session title, and you’re done (no need to hit submit).

  3. Comments for why are extra helpful if you have time.

  4. Please do so by the deadline on Sunday, August 23rd!

Your vote will help put the spotlight on micro-local neighborhood gatherings on one of the world’s biggest stages!!

My hope is to share how organizing block parties solves the world's struggle with loneliness, disconnection, burnout, polarization, declining youth mental health, and civic trust. I want every attendee to walk away knowing:

❤️ Block parties enable you to get to know your neighbors and create a community – offering a sense of belonging, rootedness, mutual support, and trust.

❤️ Bring back neighborhood play, a chance for neighborhood jobs, and trusted spaces to grow confident, skilled, and resilient children and teens.

❤️ Break down barriers that prevent an overwhelming majority of people from initiating much-desired contact with neighbors with free tools and support.

Thank you for your support!

PS: If you’re in Connecticut, I’d love for you to join me for Block Party 101 live at either the Ridgefield Library on Tuesday, August 18, or the Wilton Library on August 19th at 6:30 pm. You can click the library you’ll be attending to get more details and register for free.
